Notes on Charles [1806] and Bridget Shevlin Family

From the original Church ledger of St. Mary's of the Mountain Cemetery, transcribed by Joan and Bob Brower, May and June 1999:

Charles Shevlin died January 16, 1888 and was buried January 18, 1888

Bridget Shevlin died June 15, 1889 and was buried June 18, 1889.

In 1839 a subscription was taken up to build a church and lay out a cemetery.  Charles Shevlin was one of the original subscribers and contributed $3.00. 

Agricultural statistics for Charles Shevlin from 1855 census:

40 acres improved, 60 unmproved.
Value of form $300, stock $140, tools and equipment $25

6 acres plowed previous year, 10 acres pasture
24 acres meadow, 10 tons of hay
2 acres oats, 35 bushels harvested
2 acres buckwheat, 1 bushel harvested
1 acre potatoes, 90 bushels harvested

Neat Cattle:
2 cows, 2 over 1 year excluding working Oxen and cows
2 cows milked, 200 pounds of butter

2 swine over 6 months
33 sheep, 60 fleeces, 180 pounds of wool

In a letter dated 1942, Idella Shevlin indicates that Charles lived in Hunter before moving to Tannersville.  She believes all the children were born there, apparently meaning in Hunter.

Note on son Cornelius Shevlin

Peddler. Married. Lived in New York for 1 year. Last residence a tenement at 133 Ludlow Street. Died Roosevelt Hospital. New York City, June 23, 1892 age 48.  Cause of death shock following operation for brain tumor.
